This combination of fixtures was hard to find given our constraints with dimensions. For this bathroom, we had to ensure each fixture and its availability before demolition started as there was literally no room for error. This bedroom is a textural dream with the cowhide on the nightstands, leather and nail head trim, velvet headboard, quilted bedding and the softness from the flowers! Planned layers are critical to making a room come together. The pocket doors provide much needed privacy when needed to the room which otherwise is intended to be mostly open. These closets hide the pipes in the middle and we designed a spotlight to highlight the niche. The bonded leather dining chairs add sophisticated minimalism and are fiunctional for the young family. The green vintage door art adds warmth and draws the eye in as people walk into the room. Custom built-ins around a white glass counter top and wine fridge create the perfect surface to set up the bar or coffee station. Design features includes custom shaker cabinets with a step detail, floor and backsplash tile laid out in timeless herringbone pattern, appliances with custom panels and the pop of yellow bar stools. The great room includes the living room, dining room and multipurpose room creating open floorplan with each space centered around ceiling light fixtures. Custom open shelves create a rotating gallery of cookware with changing seasons and use. Extra tip - there are shallow depth cabinets under the bar for additional storage and still enough leg room to comfortably sit. Classic Tolix bar stools in yellow add an industrial feel and a pop of brightness. The existing mirror was our inspiration piece and we built in feature pendant lights to create an entry that made a statement. We offset the warmth of the mirror and lights with neutral grey painted walls. Wanting to create a modern bathroom with a rich material choice, we chose a walnut veneer for the floating vanity and the tub apron to contrast with the travertine-looking porcelain tile. The feature wall is a linear textured porcelain tile in the same color. Adding a barn style glass door for the tub shower combo makes the room feel larger. Wall mounted vanity faucet in polished chrome over a furniture sink adds to a modern decluttered vanity instantly. I love using furniture sinks. The room also is a music room for the violinists in the family (unfortunately not pictured here), a guest room for when family visits (this daybed opens into a king sized bed), mom's office everyday (shown in next pic) and the perfect spot for reading or watching the snowflakes dance. The custom window seat cushion has minimal banquette-like style in faux leather for easy maintenance. Linen, Leather and Wood are the main textures supported with some chrome and porcelain surround for our fireplace. Blue and green accessories accent the room and are easy to swap for holidays. The dining room with the reclaimed dining table and bench create a comfortable farmhouse vibe for this young family. We brought in the contemporary dining chairs with linen upholstery to create a bit of a transition from the wallpapered living room and the relaxed family room. The black leather chairs with chrome legs are the perfect spot for morning coffee. Its soft and playful and delicate just like a newborn baby girl is. We have linen, tulle, cotton, diamond quilt, feathers, vintage wood and aged brass to add textural opulence. The walls are painted a beautiful warm grey from Benjamin Moore color suite to make the rental feel personalized. We did custom square panelling creating a grid pattern and accented the room with a bright blue paint, a bold move. The Quartz top dining table is indestructible and beautiful at the same time. We love these dining chairs that add curves to the room amidst the geometry from the panelling. The assymetrical ceiling fixture provides a subtle movement to the design. I love the slight peek into the custom dark wood walk in closet and the minimal black sconce we selected for lighting here. We wanted the millwork to be a feature and hence brought in white hardware that disappears. Inspired by the rainbow artwork made by the little girl, I arranged her board games, the pens in her caddy and the beads in her bead carousel in rainbow colors and gave central space to the rainbow heart book at the top. Pigs, bunnies and elephants are the soft animals I used. I chose to do a fruit bowl for this photoshoot instead of a full table setting to highlight the design more than highlight styling. The green artwork grounds and warms up this very minimal and modern dining room. By adding the fresh fruit in the brass bowl, I managed to create freshness. The brass in the bowl and the brass in the art coordinate with each other. I added a blush knitted blanket on one side of the crib to create some weight in an otherwise very ligth and fluffy room. The dress in front hangs on a pink velvet haner with rose gold metal. I could have picked a pink dress (which every mom has for her baby girl) but instead I chose this floral green dress with a smoking neck to break the color a bit. We created a neutral room with grey walls and white ceiling and a grey velvet headboard. Once we had our neutral palette, we added color with the bedding, art work, flowers and books. The deep blue coverlet folded half way lets the white sheeting pop. There is design detail in the pillow arrangement as well. I did king sized pillows in blue print, then standard pillows in crisp white and then square cushions in the middle. The artwork has an asymmetrical blue with more white at the bottom. The orchid in the middle of the mirror flanked by the pendant lights creates a playful organic symmetry. I added a blush knitted blanket on one side of the crib to create some weight in an otherwise very ligth and fluffy room. The dress in front hangs on a pink velvet haner with rose gold metal. I could have picked a pink dress (which every mom has for her baby girl) but instead I chose this floral green dress with a smoking neck to break the color a bit. Also accented in the middle is a antique silver paisley printed turquoise velvet pillow with silver pom poms. Often times, when we have space for a sofa, we want to add a sofa, but it never gets used and becomes a dumping zone. We removed the existing furniture and brought in the classic Papa Bear chair in custom cashmere wool with walnut wood finish. It has become the perfect corner by the window to read, curl up with a coffee and a blanket or just watch the rest of the family snoozing on the bed. I brought in the walnut dresser to warm up the textural and neutral mood board. A wide panel queen sized bed flanked by low nighstands fit this alcove as if it was custom built. We really found it. The bed is beautifully finished in smoked oak wood veneer and upholstered in black leatherette. The low nightstands add a modern minimal vibe and the accent light adds a layer of warmth. With the media cabinet and the TV is tucked on the back wall, we added a dark grey sofa. The chairs are swivel chairs and hence perfect for conversations, star gazing and movie night. That beautiful coffee table in the middle has a table top that swivels out, so we fit in 6 seats in this studio apartment. The dining table is a design hack. We got a console table and used it as a dining table for him or a buffet area for when the client is entertaining. I love the eased arms and how they bring such a soft detail to the space. The side tables are 100% solid marble and weigh a ton and look stunning with the beautiful vening. I kept the art rectangular and the lampshade taller to make standard ceiling heights appear taller. The media cabinet is a beautiful natural oak with a polished marble top. It went from a dated tub+shower combination with a single vanity, lots of wasted space to a large shower with a built in bench, double vanity, huge linen closet and a modern update. As with the rest of the house, we kept the colorway neutral towards grey tones to let the view shine. We installed a mirror wall above the double vanity to reflect the beautiful textured tile in the shower. We repainted the cabinets a dark color; now because the apartment is filled with natural light, this saturated color works very well here, but always test paint colors on site. We added new quartz countertop and backsplash to modernise the kitchen. In this view, I am showing how the living room is the central room in this open concept home and leads to other spaces. The entry foyer is grounded by a favourite art piece which shows patina on the canvas as well as the frame. It went from dated and yellow to modern and light. Paint is the biggest contributing factor here. I painted the walls, ceiling and the trim the same color. The amount of natural light in the space creates a multitude of shadows and changes the color through the day. Keeping the color the same allows for the paint to not be distracting and lets the view shine. The transition from one material to the next is the sole purpose of this photograph. Notice how the mosaic penny tile meets the bench’s facade and the textured wall tile. The honed marble sits flush on the curb to finish it off. The custom shower glass door travels along the profile of the bench in a beautiful way. And the tile meets the painted sheetrock without a schluter. I got this beautiful sofa with a handsome shape and some soft curves to add some feminity in a textured boucle fabric. The coffee table is clear glass resting on top of hones carrara blocks, invoking strength and sturdy. The side table has a simple shape and packs a punch as does the ose tined mirror and chandlier above. Always, functional design. The floating shelves in walnut are custom and placed to store her speakers, deck of A4 papers and printer. The foyer beyond has a stunning oak console table and a stool to unleash the dog. The playful light in the entry foyer keeps things fun. The art above brings the whole room together with the colors and organic prints. The bar stools are minimal and end just where the beautiful marble starts. The pendant lights with its double sphere clear glass let your eyes flow visually and add to the design with the brass details and black cord. Soft beautiful lines of the swivel chair and the jigsaw puzzle coffee table make me swoon. The neutral rug with some greys, blues and whites feels luxe and grounds the room. Its hard to believe, but its an indoor outdoor rug. This room is right next to the entry door and the door to their outdoors space, so this dual-function was critical. The Kelly Wearstler accent pillows in different sizes add some pattern and compliment the art. It takes a specialised eye to see potential and this became our starting point. Bed fabric, nightstands, lighting and beddging all followed this big feature moment. The wallpaper made such a huge difference. We shot the room in the day, but it plays with light at night and changes and is kind of magical. Custom bed in such a unique frame upholstered in an ivory velvet is the perfect pair while the shagreen nightands create a constrast. Swap the art and pillows for Harry Potter in a few years and viola… best room for years!! The beautiful dining table with its porcelain marbeled top extends, the chairs clean with a simple wipe for this young house, and the walnut legs complement the millwork in the kitchen. The dining room console is stunning with its acrylic base and lacqured burled wood in onyx finish anchored by a simple round mirror with brass accents. The floating shelves were to display the beautiful collection of bottles the home owners had. To make a feature wall, as an an alternative to the intertia associated with tile, I used wallpaper. We stayed on budget by using Ikea cabinets with custom cabinet fronts from semihandmade. The niche is generous depth and has been beutifully applied by mitred stone edges on all sides. The glass shower is custom and width half to make the shower feel open. Fluted detailing on the green vanity adds style and handsome pop of color. We added a vynil wallpaper with this beautiful crocodile leather finish, from Elitis. I chose a darker base for the bedroom to make it moody and modern. Once we had our wallpaper picked out, I kept all other upholstery in the room light. The bed is modern and upholstered in a soft wool fabric in a grey with some warm threads. Keep a glass of wine and more beauty products, there is room to spare. The volume controls on the back wall, make it easier to run the water before getting in. We have tall storage that serves a high function demand. Its a favourite corner for both my clients to sit and read or watch TV. Set against this beautiful wallpaper, the swivel chair with its chrome base looks handsome and inviting. The table lamps with that black frill detail add a softness to the room. Large scale stone looking porcelain tile, wooden planked floor tile and green furniture makes this bathroom neutral and gives it that surprising personality. Taking extras sapce from the closet behind helped the design by centering this very small window and making it a feature instead of a bother, made the bathroom roomy. I added a coordinating custom desk with a beautiful granite top to create the home office which became the need of the hour during this pandemic. Functionally every piece of upholstery is dog and wine proof despite being light colored. I kept the color pallette neutral with pops of yellow and blue which are two of their favourite colors. It has fluted glass panels that are wrapped in antique bronze metal. There are three shelves inside which have accent LED lighting and the touch latch mechanism to open her up. The soft curves, the beautiful walnut finish and the metal legs in a lovely antique bronze make it one with the home. The bar and the art in the foyer lend a great spot for the eyes to rest. We used a family dining table and added custom chairs. I kept the color pallete blue and green in here with a suede leather blue wallpaper, it nearly looks like a plaster wall when touched and feels like interactive art. I chose a blue pure wool rug to marry it with the feature wallpaper. All softer furnishings have a slight shade of green. The material selection here include European walnut bed, nightstands in lacquer and walnut finish, brass and linen sconces, pure linen sheets and wool throw, all brought together by the honed graphite marble ledge. There is an understated grey in the pallete with warmth and darkness that this room plays to its advantage. The silohuette of every furniture piece in this room is sophisticated and masculine. I added so much to this blank slate. Starting with function always, we added some sound proofing and insulation behind this beautiful feature wall. This is the shared wall which is the TV wall for the neighbors, so we wanted to ensure some protection. I also wanted to add sconces for nightime reading. The design intention was to do a hand plaster on the wall and create a marble ledge as an additional surface. We wanted to create a darker canvas here as the room is bathed in sunlight especially in the mornings. This spot is really where everyone who walks into the apartment stands and pauses to soak in the house, the wndows, the views and the feeling of being somewhere calm and restful high up in the sky. We have five functioning areas in this great room - the living room, the dining room, kitchen, breakfast bar and a bar area. When I ceated the flow of this room, I wanted to ensure there was room around the perimeter to explore and mingle. The sofa is a beautiful leather which will age with use over the years. The blue wing chairs are upholstered in a beautiful cashmere wool. The barstools are functional as they tuck under the countertop if required and swivel for party nights. The rug is 100% wool and brings in the greens, blues and tans used everywhere in the house. The coffee table is custom made with a mix of oak and honed carrara marble. To bring in light is an abstract chandelier with LED lights that look like they are dancing on the metallic ceiling at night. The balcony out side has floor to ceiling doors and I’ve framed them in raw silk drapes. Bokshelves under have treasures for the friends. And the layout of the room enables tea, conversations and lounging. Blue plays an accent here with the sofa and the blue dot on the grid rug. The Old China cabinet has been in the family for generations and I’ve styled it with heirloom dinnerware. To make the old China cabinet a feature, I added some modern elements like the chandelier and the snake rug. I used mostly performance fabrics and faux leather in the dining room. The old china cabinet is a vintage piece that has stayed in the family and passed through generations and travelled across many cities. The sword atop the cabinet is from India passed on by the client’s grandmother. The snake rug and the yellow light represents the uniqueness of design here. One of the biggest requirements in the great room was a reclining sectional. Now we all know how recliners used to be, bulky and outdated and I saw my design dreams crashing. But I was able to source this gorgeous, uber cool electric recliner sectional which is a joy to sit and lounge in. The right corner opened in this image. I added a combination of smaller coffe tables to accomondate a comfortable flow in the living room given the space required for the recliner to open up. The textural stone and contrast in the base is endearing in this table. Also seen here is the dining room and kitchen further beyond and the entry foyer space. I have high back lounge chairs for hours of reading in performance fabric of course. Also, shown here is the corner seat in the sectional with raised recliner. Another unique ask in this house was a ceiling fan and given the typical ceiling height of an NYC apartment, I was apprehensive about accomodating a ceiling fan in the living area. I designed an arched niche and used a marigold paint color to create a temple like space. Seated in it is Lord Ganesh and an accent pendant above. The custom arched display cabinet has arched glass doors for continuity. The fun shape if the rug makes the placement of chairs flexible. The media unit is wall mounted in a walnut finish and the lovely travertine coffee tables styled with some Indian goodies. I love this bed with built in wings and nightstands. The accent chair drives the color palette in this room with bedding to coordinate. It was a personal challenge to get a set of burgundy sheets, but in this room, it was the right thing to do. I moved the papa bear chair from their primary bedroom (which I previously designed) to the corner and it looks great here. The clients love red and I added a bench in rust colorway to fill the corner and provide additional seating. The accent chairs are handsome and stately sitting atop a neutral rug that grounds the space. The softness of the falling petals and the deep colors of wine and burgundy on an irredescant base create a moment to stop and take notice. The pendant light against this background and its silohuette with the materiality of leather and frosted glass adds to the drama. The alabaster sconces outside complement the room and its significance. This room used to be the nursery and is now the ultimate flex room. The sofa is a pullout sofa in a nuetral colorway adn performance fabric and the rug is play rug for the kids to spead out; totally wipeable, but with an air of sophistication. The apartment has floor to ceiling windows and gets a ton of sunlight, so we added drapes for function and luxury. The apartment has modern bones and so I chose to keep the furniture mostly modern. The tan sofa with a beautiful silhouette anchors the room sitting on a neutral rug. The glass coffee table allows for the abstract base to show and textures of the rug to shine. The minimal floor lamps keep set a very modern mood. The ottomans look sculptural and are comfortable sit covered in shearling. The side tables bring in the character here. The pig, who we fondly call Ms. Dottie occupies the space, and brings in contrast and adds a pop. She’s sculptural and unexpected and makes a bold statement. On the other end of the sofa is a vintage sewing table which was such a perfect find for this client. The thin shaker style on the cabinet looks updated and enhances the storage in here. The brass hardware keeps is delicate and warm. The pendant here are soft and to scale and just right. Never underestimate the power of a fresh coat of paint. I added blackout drapes with a border at the bottom to unit the patio with the bedroom. I added raw silk wallpaper to the ceiling to accentuate the ceiling height and highlight the accent color in the bedding. The plug in sconces are functional for reading and the desk space is generous. It has unique cabinetry colors, of course all custom; we chose a sage green for the perimeter cabinets and a deep aubergine color for the island. When applied on the newly designed mouldings for this home, the paint color adds character and defines the vibe of this home. I added details like the sconces and chandelier and trim work all centered around the homeowner's’ existing art. The view from the living room window looking at the darker dining room and the feature custom bar with an antique mirrored backsplash is a moment we all love. Another favourite moment is my clients’ wedding photo. We incorporated a wedding photo early on into the design, only it turned out to be this cool one from their wedding in Europe. The newly made switch plates and new vintage sconce make this juxtaposition special. Now they work out near a window and on a sunny moment the bike sits pretty playing beautifully with the shadows. The moulding design continues through the house and each rooms has its own color story. Like always, we started with laying this room out first and making sense of what goes where. We added a bar because the clients are connoisseurs and love collecting barware and fancy liquors. With the bar taken care of, we centered the dining table and added these beautiful lounge chairs for a good book and drink moment. We extended the kitchen outwards and added more storage for the lady of the house. There is vision and then there is execution which was nail biting till the very end. The custom storage with mirrored fronts is another moment in design time. We created drawers with mirrored fronts to add some drama. The mirror makes the bathroom feel larger and gives it a break from the all the stone. The wallpaper has some gray tones in it to pick on the blue fabric from the headboard. Executed to perfection and makes a typical 5x8 bathroom feel large!! We used the same calcite Azul slab to create a custom sink for the second bath. We started with a feature mosaic tile for the feature wall and paired it with Thassos field tile on rest of the walls. The counter space we created in this kitchen amazes me. Polished Chrome oval hardware makes the custom finish on the faucet exciting!!
