Custom Home Bar and Master EnSuite Design

My services were enlisted for this project by home owners who wanted to create a living room central to entertaining and their main feature was the home bar. They both enjoy their spirits and are quite spirited themselves. Their apartment is a good size but it was not being used properly. There were many functional problems that needed to be solved with spatial design while keeping a budget number.

In Phase 2, I designed their master bedroom and it became a room designed on client and designer trust. The brief was to design a space completely different from the rest of the home, more towards dark and moody. I designed a modern and contemporary bedroom, using some of their existing furniture while adding a home office space.

In Phase 3, I designed their primary bathroom and they wanted a light and airy neutral sapce that had tons of storage for products, a tub that didn’t feel claustrophobic. The before and and after here are miles apart. I was able to take some space from the reach in closet behind the bathroom and that became a game changer. Beautiful neutral large scale wall tile and green vanity and tall storage gives them the much needed storage. Heeted floors and a smart toilet seat are some other luxuries we added.

Wide angle shot of this new bathroom. Large scale stone looking porcelain tile, wooden planked floor tile and green furniture makes this bathroom neutral and gives it that surprising personality. Taking extras sapce from the closet behind helped the design by centering this very small window and making it a feature instead of a bother, made the bathroom roomy. It feels more luxurious than it looks here.

The stone ledge behind the tub is a luxurious extra surface in a typical NYC bathroom. Keep a glass of wine and more beauty products, there is room to spare. The volume controls on the back wall, make it easier to run the water before getting in. We have tall storage that serves a high function demand. And fancy robe hooks for towels.

Here we have our shower body in satin nickel finish and it adds warmth to the wall tile. The niche is generous depth and has been beutifully applied by mitred stone edges on all sides. The glass shower is custom and width half to make the shower feel open. Fluted detailing on the green vanity adds style and handsome pop of color. The mirror is smart and adds functional lighting while also showing the tall cabinet behind and the csntrols for radiant floors.

Here is a wide angle view of the master bedroom. We added a vynil wallpaper with this beautiful crocodile leather finish, from Elitis. I chose a darker base for the bedroom to make it moody and modern. Once we had our wallpaper picked out, I kept all other upholstery in the room light. The bed is modern and upholstered in a soft wool fabric in a grey with some warm threads. The custom roman shades in a plaid pattern took some convinicing, but it warms the room with some soft pattern.

This is one of my favourite shots from this room as it captured most of the design detail in a tight frame. Its a favourite corner for both my clients to sit and read or watch TV. Set against this beautiful wallpaper, the swivel chair with its chrome base looks handsome and inviting. The table lamps with that black frill detail add a softness to the room. The custom double layered window treatments soften the light pouring into the room.

I designed a custom bar with a wine fridge, base cabinets, waterfall counterop and floating shelves above. The floating shelves were to display the beautiful collection of bottles the home owners had. To make a feature wall, as an an alternative to the intertia associated with tile, I used wallpaper. We stayed on budget by using Ikea cabinets with custom cabinet fronts from semihandmade. In the foyer beyond, we added floor to ceiling storage and a surface that they use as a foyer console table.

In the living room, we added all new furniture which went through a very serious sit test to satissfy one of the home owners. Functionally every piece of upholstery is dog and wine proof despite being light colored. I kept the color pallette neutral with pops of yellow and blue which are two of their favourite colors. The artwork above the sofa was commissioned and brings the whole space together.
